( No Title )
Fujoshi
đ Originally started as a misogynistic slur hurled by Japanese men at Japanese girls and women in fandom
đ Is a pun or portmanteau that literally means ârotten womanâ
đ Colloquially means âunmarriageableâ, ânot good wife materialâ
đ Basically means someone who is more interested in fandom husbandos than getting married and raising a family
đ Is a widely reclaimed and self-applied label in Japan by Japanese women, and by other women in fandom throughout the world.
đ Is still a slur if you use it against someone as an insult, including if that person is not Japanese.
đ Funny enough if you call a western fan a âfujoshiâ or a “fujo” as an insult you are using it in the same way as a conservative Japanese man who thinks women need to get offline and into the kitchen.
Hope that helps!
Also, TERFS appropriated Fujoshi, completely changed the definition to mean something else entirely, and weaponized it against trans men who found their identities through the media and/or erotica they were reading. Thatâs where âFujoshi is a woman who fetishizes gay menâ comes from.
By insisting that TERFS transphobic interpretation of Fujoshi is actually the âcorrect definitionâ and not the reclaimed definition that originated in Japanese fandom. Youâre not only saying that a group that actively perpetuates white supremacy knows Japanese as a language, the culture and the cultural context surrounding the term better than Japanese fandom who originated the term in the first place. Youâre also saying that words are âfetishizingâ and âwrongâ by virtue of being in a different language or by being Japanese. And that the many asian women who identify with the reclaimed slur, are dirty fetishizers by virtue. Thatâs pretty racist tbh.
Anyways just something to think about.
