Hey, take it from someone who used to be sex repulsed; You can’t make it go away just through sheer force of will. Exposure therapy is for fears and traumas, it doesn’t work for squicks. In fact, it often has the opposite intended effect. I’ve learned that the hard way before too. It’s comparable to ABA “therapy” or conversation “therapy”.
If it really bothers you, there are still some methods of therapy that could help you better handle your squicks, especially depending on why you have them, but please don’t beat yourself up over it if that doesn’t help either. I’m pretty repulsed by most types of dead dove content, and I don’t like seeing them, but I’m still proship because I recognize that my personal feelings of disgust aren’t a moral compass. If that’s the only thing that makes you proship, then you still belong here and you’re just as valid a proshipper as any of the rest of us.
Trust me! We appreciate anyone who doesn’t harass us for our taste in fiction! Personally enjoying problematic fiction is not necessary! 👍
I know I can’t just give you a magic bullet that makes that imposter syndrome go away, but I hope this is reassuring regardless.
