“Proship” is the word for the default stance on shipping in fandom.
“Shipping” means enjoying fictional content about characters as a romantic and/or sexual couple.
“Proshipping” means Pro (in favor of) shipping. If you are proship, you are in favor of shipping.
Proship means you “ship and let ship”. You have your own ships that you enjoy, and other people have their ships that they enjoy, and if someone else has a ship that bothers or upsets you, you don’t harass or bully them about it.
If that sounds normal and not something you need a word for, you’re right!
The word “Proship” came into being a few years ago as the opposite of “antiship”.
Antishippers are moral crusaders who believe that some ships are immoral and bad, and it’s their personal duty to harass and bully people who ship immoral ships.
People started using “proship” to mean “not an antishipper”.
Proship means “I respect your ships and your boundaries, and I expect you to respect mine.”
