I hope this is a fine ramble but the post talking about someone complaining “how can you see [two people calling each other brothers] and ship them” sounds so blissfully young and foolish. I know people will think that anyway but I mean for a different reason than the obvious one. Gay history! Historically it’s pretty well known gay men would talk like that to and with partner especially because there was no way to be sure to be safe but also I remember stories of gay men who just didn’t realize they were gay and thought it was a family thing until the realization a guy can date a guy. It’s erasure and calling negative to such a common old experience of queer men through history that probably still happens and to treat something so similar to it so shitty in a fiction story feels so ass. To be able to feel like family can be the biggest sign you will be great lovers and happy through it all. That’s what I remember some queer text say once and it’s sad so many young people will attack the same protective lie or misunderstood origins of many old and new queer relationships. 😔
It is absolutely queer erasure and denial of queer history when fancops claim that characters who share a non-familiar “brotherly bond” are somehow incest and shouldn’t be shipped.
