From my understanding, Jensen Ackles who plays one of the leads in Supernatural, and became a director/producer somewhere in between the 15 seasons of the show, was upset at the incredibly unceremonious end of his character in the series run (he beat up like 7 versions of Satan and got killed by a rusty nail). However he supported and defended the end and bought the rights to the show in order to produce and direct a prequel series about the main character’s parents. Many suspect that the reason he defended the ending was so that the deal would go through and he could change the ending to a more satisfactory conclusion. Sorry if it’s still confusing though.

Never was a huge SPN fan but I followed the fandom and that ending bothered me too, so more power to him.
