I want to be clear that I don’t think you should be nice, polite or respectful toward people who are being disrespectful, abusive and threatening to you.
I just think that death threats and suibaiting poison the environment more than they actually affect your enemy.
There are just better and more productive ways to silence or even be rude to people who abuse you online than threatening them.
I like this a lot better than that post about “antis have emotions too”. As someone who was bullied for eight years, scolded for inconveniencing adults every time she spoke up about said bullying, and now has a letter from a psychiatrist saying “patient’s treatment needs are at the high end of the normal range for trauma survivors”, I don’t give a shit about bullies’ emotions and I don’t expect anyone else to. What I do expect people on here to do is recognise that leftist values like “the death penalty is a violation of human rights” can and will be tested and you must maintain those values no matter what other people do. When you send death threats or suicide bait, you are saying that death is a suitable punishment for real or perceived wrongdoing, and we’ve seen where that leads.
