Actually I’ve seen multiple people saying they aren’t gonna continue their fanworks jic it bothers Clown even tho they know their fanfics fit all the criteria. Are the new generation of fans okay
I mean that’s fine though? As long as they’re not harassing other fans if they want to prioritize the creator’s wishes over their own fan content that’s totally up to them and reasonable.
Anne Rice’s fandom used to do the same. Her fandom mailing list didn’t allow fanfic. (here called “spec” short for speculative.)
From the rules on Rices’ mailing list in 1995:
No specs.
There are two main reasons we don’t use specs. The first reason is that we choose to respect Anne’s personal wishes, as stated many times, but specifically as expressed in an online chat on Compuserve on August 3, 1995:
Deborah Fort asks: Anne – Do you have any interest (or have you ever) read anything written by your fans involving your characters?
Anne Rice: No, I haven’t. I’m very possesive [sic] of my characters. I think it would hurt me terribly to read anything with some of my characters. I hope you’ll be inspired to write your own stories with your own characters.
