Darkfic writers “condone” writing about underage sex and incest in the same way that darkfic writers “condone” writing about murder, abuse and torture.

All fictional crimes are equally fictional.

I, a fellow writer, personally have to disagree. Killing off or harming characters is fine because they aren’t real and, as a writer you can absolutely fix it whenever you want. Underage sex and incest, as well as other sexual crimes, are sometimes written with the intent of sexual gratification of the writer or reader. Regardless of condoning those things, they are not equal in their impact the way they are in real life. It is ok to touch on those topics, but describing them in detail is risky business. And that’s coming from someone who writes about eldritch horror and mentall illness frequently.

Killing off or harming characters is also sometimes written with the intent of gratification of the writer and reader.

There is no difference.

Fiction is fiction.

Sexual gratification is no more harmful than any other emotional gratification.

Oh my god, you guys treat horniness like it’s some kind of infectious disease. Why does it fucking matter??? Why do you care if people are horny over fiction??? It’s still just fiction!!! I hate the internet.

apparently this one’s never seen a slasher movie. or guro. or nonromantic mafia glorification. i PROMISE you, gratification – even sexual gratification of an otherwise nonsexual situation – is very much OFTEN intended in depiction of violence and death. it is literally a known and exploited thing that young girls are horny over pretty anime boys covered in someone else’s blood, like you can’t just pretend that’s not a thing.

i’m all for treating death as a normal part of life, but surely we can agree that murder isn’t?? or rather, shouldn’t be! just like sexual violence shouldn’t be a normal part of life! these things are very much hand in hand.

i think if you view the two as inherently different, you should really sit yourself down and ask why, and play the devil’s advocate against all of your answers until you can’t anymore. really UNDERSTAND, don’t just go with your gut feeling.

i’ve seen a lot of these arguments, and one thing that’s very clear to me is that a lot of you on the anti side view sexual violence as “a sexual act that is violent”. but that ain’t it. it’s an act of violence that uses sex as the weapon. and as someone who’s been put through that kind of thing, i sincerely ask you to really think about the difference between those two, because it is very fucking important.

it is not the sex part that’s supposed to bother you.

if you’re bothered by the idea of someone getting off on a rape fic, but you’re not bothered by a hoard of people cheering with delight at a teenager getting torn to shreds, then it isn’t the harm that bothers you. it is specifically the sexual taboo. and i’m really sorry, but that’s a You problem, not an indication of anyone’s morality.

and to be clear, you’re not a bad person for being bothered – everyone has stuff they can’t watch. but you ARE a bad person for trying to control what other people get to enjoy and pushing your own discomfort as an indication of morality.
