Hey I’m genuinely curious and I want to ask a question in good faith and I’m hoping you will answer this for me. I’ve been seeing a lot of pro shippers discuss the hays code and I have been really confused as to why? I thought it was just a film industry regulation that stopped in the 60’s? I understand proshipppers are very concerned about censorship but I don’t get how it relates back to fanfiction or fandom space? At first I thought it was being used just as an example of censorship in recent history but I’m not sure anymore. Outside of pro shipping spaces I never see any mention of the hays code unless it’s relating back to film history. I’m sorry is there something I’m missing or a piece of context that would help me better understand the pro shipping view? Thank you so much for your time ❤️
They Hays code is being used as a recent historical example of “morality” based censorship of fiction the type that antis claim to want.
The Hays code works well as an example because it’s effects have been widely academically discussed and studied.
