I saw you talking about not liking the popular ship in a fandom, and it make me think of a similar phenomenon which is when you do ship the popular ship, but not the way the fandom does, so you end up still not caring about all the content for that ship because No Stop You’re Doing It Wrong. (I have this so hard with Shuichi/Kokichi and Kaito/Maki please save me)
This is literally me with Style (South Park) and Wrightworth (Ace Attorney). They are toxic af and that is why I like them, the fanon just waters it down for me.
Mainly I try to just ignore the fanfiction for the ships, since it is not to my tastes. I still like fanart for them though!
You can always create your own fan content for how you envision the pair too. My inbox is always open if you want to send in hcs too dark for your main blog, if you’d like!
