Let’s talk about how much comment culture has changed in the last 20 years…

In 2002-2003 I was writing a multi-chapter longfic for the fandom X-Men: Evolution.

The fic was OC x canon and the canon character was Toad– one of the least popular main characters/villains in the show.

The fic updated about once a week, and each chapter was an average of 1500 words.

Every single chapter of that fic got at least 10 comments, before the next chapter of the fic went up.

I could count on getting the first comment maybe an hour after the fic went up. Sometimes less.

And this was a fic for a semi-popular fandom, with an unpopular character that was about an OC.

Do not let people tell you commenting hasn’t changed.

We all get WAY less comments now.
