Since the 70s, people have been obsessed with 30 years prior. Yet the 2020s obsession with the 90s lasted only a few years. Do I think this was a corporate conspiracy afraid of the 90s counterculture movement returning? Yes.
wait, we’re not supposed to be obsessed with the 90s any more??
I mean I am, but it has had none of the staying power of something like the 90s obsession with the 60s, the 00s/70s, and the 10s/80s. Pop culture seems to have skipped pretty much immediately to 00s nostalgia a decade early, and it just is too much of a long-standing trend for me to buy that that was organic.
That’s a really interesting observation tbh… 🤔
