I really don’t get the, “But a kid could see this and think it’s okay!” Because it comes with so many infuriating assumptions.
Why is a kid looking at something that explicitly isn’t for them? Why is the creator of said content responsible for that when they properly tagged it and told minors to not interact? Why is someone who’s making content not meant for minors responsible for teaching minors that incest and grooming are bad, when that’s something a kid should’ve been taught already?
I’d argue there’s a lot more fucked up and traumatizing stuff on the internet than someone’s “weird” or “problematic” ship art.
I think we should make it a little harder for kids to find content they shouldn’t see. Back when Steven Universe was popular people published NSFW stuff under a Stephen Galaxy or something similar. I didn’t mind that.
But it’s not the creators fault if a kid finds it. Kids have been sneaking into R rated movies for decades, clicking “I am 18+” buttons on websites, and generally just searching things they shouldn’t.
Hell, when I was 10-12 I ready dirty fanfic. Admittedly it was also probably written by kids who had barely any idea how it worked… Some of those fics made no sense lol.
We as creators do all we can to make sure minors don’t access our adult content but nothing is ever going to be airtight.
