Sex is absolutely no more or less intimate than you and whoever you’re having sex with make it and perceive it to be.
Sex does not have any special intimacy over brushing someone’s hair, cooking them dinner, or holding them in your arms.
It absolutely IS more vulnerable than any of those things though.
