Here’s the secret– authors love getting plain emoji, keymashes, and quotes from their fic as comments.

You don’t have to say something meaningful. Just some reaction to tell us that you read it and liked it is appreciated.

When we see a ‘hit/view’ that doesn’t leave any kudos or comment or reaction to our fic, we assume the person who clicked didn’t like it or didn’t finish it.

This! I got a bunch of comments the other day that were just different colored heart emojis.

And you know what? I really appreciated that.

Also, the amount of comments on a fic doesn’t matter when it comes to commenting. I promise you the writer will cherish each of those comments and new ones.

there’s this one person who reads my fics who only ever responds with ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ and i get so excited whenever they show up like HELLO PERSON I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THANK YOU FOR READING MY THING

Honestly, you don’t have to and aren’t being expected to always comment a literature review. You don’t have to be particularly eloquent and/or even specific about what you liked.

This isn’t like a book club where the entire premise runs on reviewing the books we just read. Its fan work, a lot of the time it’s about establishing a sense of community in a fandom.

Sure, authors really love when a reader takes the time to openly dissect and discuss their work with them. But they also understand that not every comment can be that, it’s not always feasible.

Even just commenting the little things, they don’t go unnoticed. One “IM CHEWING THIS SO HARD RN” or string of emojis is enough to say “somebody thinks this is interesting, that it is worth sharing!”
