Wearing a t-shirt as an outer garment was first popularized by James Dean and Marlon Brando in roles as young punks in 1950s movies, and wearing an undershirt as an outer garment was perceived as exactly as sloppy, rude, and rebellious as you’d expect.

Try to imagine if in 50 years from now everyone is wearing boxer shorts or brassieres as normal everyday outerwear and that’s exactly what happened.
