Btw guys, expect another twitter migration because, apparently, twitter has a high chance of being banned in Brazil

To any new people coming here: Hi! Please don’t feel pressured to speak English, speak Portuguese or Spanish or Your Language Of Choice!! We may not have automatic translations like twitter does, but that doesn’t mean that you should have to cater to English-only speakers

Okay, since we’re talking translation, it’s time for me to hype up my favorite browser extension that I use all the time:

Simple translate (chrome link, home website link) takes a bit of initial configuration, but once you’ve got it set up it saves you a ton of time

I’ve got it set up so that when I highlight a section, there’s a pop-up button:

(don’t mind the huge white bar, that’s a different extension I’ve got installed, we’re looking at that tiny black button beneath “should” here)

And the translation shows up right on top of the text:

As you can see, it’s very helpful for single words, but it’s also really good at translating larger texts:

(you can compare single word and whole sentence translations to see if you’re missing any crucial context due to a language barrier!)

Obviously, it’s not perfect. You’ll get a much better translation starting from English or Spanish than Arabic or Chinese. But for the european languages, you’re set. (And that does include central and eastern european languages like Polish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Russian – it’s good.)
