Pirate/Privateer AU idea because I have no self control. I might at some point write something in this au but who knows.
The Naked Snake, a 3 mast Barque, with battle scars and the fiercest gunnery known to man.
The captain is known simultaneously as Naked Snake (he is seen as being a part of his ship, rumoured to have manned it single handed through a storm. This isn’t true but the story still spread) and Big Boss. No one asks about that name or the captain gets… uneasy.
The crew is intensely loyal. When they take a prize there are often more volunteers than they should really take but no one is turned away. If the ship takes on too many people they are dropped off at friendly ports with money and rations, then pointed to contacts for work and housing.
It started as a privateer crew hired by the Dutch, the British and the French. They sailed and fought and took prizes across almost the entire world. The crew changed here and there but the core stayed the same – the captain, the first mate, and the quartermaster. (Big Boss may or may not be in a relationship with one of them, no one knows for sure and no one dares to ask.) The ship and its crew turned Pirate after being betrayed by the British crown, personal vendettas taking over as they turned their back on the world.
At some point a second ship almost identical to the Naked Snake began prowling the ocean – still 3 masts, still a barque, but with a gnarled and disturbing prow-head.
There were tales of the captain’s sons having ships of their own but no one knew for sure. Other Snakes appeared on the seas, captained in vastly different ways, but each with similarities to the Naked Snake in both form and tactics.
But the legend of the Naked Snake filtered across the world, striking fear, awe, and respect wherever the name was spoken.
