It’s a great ‘low level spicy’ trope for when you’re looking for something with a dash of heat, but don’t want to burn your mouth on the hottest chili pepper of a relationship.
Boss/employee is tame enough to make it into a LOT of mainstream media, so it’s fun because we get to see it in a lot of movies, books, etc, especially pre-90s.
