things-antis-say:

this is super fucking stupid, and op posted discourse, so fuck it, let’s get to arguing about it

yes, i think representation in media is important (for a variety of reasons), but this is not an example of fiction affecting reality — this is an example of reality affecting fiction

i enjoy seeing other queer people in media, be it animated or live action. it reminds me of the great progress that has been made in the queer rights movement and the strides we’ve made for acceptance. and, most importantly, i am already queer. girl in red didn’t make me gay, and neither did some fucking netflix original

is it nice to see myself represented? yes — because i already exist

however, i do not watch a movie like encanto and decide that i would like to be columbian. i do not watch a movie with an all-male cast and decide that i am trans. i don’t watch movies featuring disabled people and decide to break my legs. i don’t watch an adam sandler movie and decide to convert to judaism

just like i don’t watch the human centipede and decide that i want to stitch people’s bodies together. just like i don’t watch saw and decide to kidnap and murder people

just like i don’t fucking read noncon fics and decide to rape someone

you are using progressive language to shield your regressive ideology from criticism, and it’s gross. please think before you post
