Oh is THAT the community that started using IRL? I have been trying to track down the source of where that started forever.

That is wonderful to know and I would love to be able to spread the message of where this term fits into the general glossary of alterhuman terms.

Do you have any sources on where/when this got started in the psychosis community and how it’s properly used?

It’s not really considered an alterhuman thing. There’s a lot of… contention around it.

“I’m more than kin, I’m an irl”

“Kin means relating to a character but I’m really this irl”

You can see where the problem is.

No doubt people with psychosis use it, but it’s coming from people who don’t understand otherkin and fictionkind to begin with, and the overlap with kin-for-fun is almost a circle.

Speaking as a spiritual fictionkin– I think I prefer it when people who either aren’t serious about being kin (kin for fun) or believe their identity is due to mental illness or delusion, use a label for themselves other than fictionkin.

Maybe some of these ‘irls’ think they’re ‘better’ than kin, or more than kin, but as you said, they don’t know what they’re talking about, and having them use a different word establishes more of a distinction between the two communities, whether or not the one community is well understood by the other.
