Vanessa enters the narrative after the ‘in water’ ending of Silent Hill 2, but throughout the story there are flashbacks to her past with James before the beginning of the game.
In her opening scene, Vanessa is in bed when her phone suddenly rings, and she gets a call from Silent Hill, hearing a familiar voice, her missing uncle James.
