does anyone else get, like, maudlin for the way fandom used to be? like, ive seen so many writers delete their fics and burn all ties with their fandoms bc fandom itself killed their love of it. and it didnt use to be like this; yeah, fandom spaces were smaller and you got less ‘stuff’ from it (less fanart and fanvids and fanfics and moodboards and playlists) but. you had a community. you had people who supported you and appreciated what you did. and ive noticed less comments, less reblogging, less support on creators pages in general, and all that you see is the hate spam. i think part of the blame rests on the media itself, but most of the blame belongs to us. and its something i cant get out of my head; i lived parallel lives to so many people before they had to leave, before everything has gotten so much worse.

Social media and the way social media comodifies interaction, and rewards aggression and negativity has destroyed fandom.
