yeah we definitely need to like figure out more talking points to use against this particular argument from antis. from what i saw it’s their most successful one. even more successful than claiming proshipping is pedophilia. like five times more successful.
I don’t think antis actually have any idea what grooming actually is or what it looks like, and neither do the people they’re recruiting.
“Everyone has fucked-up thoughts sometimes it’s okay” and “fiction is not real” are not examples of grooming. These are just true statements. I could say these things to anyone and they’d still be just as true.
Now look at these statements; “Fiction does affect reality to the point of leading to actual abuse.”, “Writing something is the same as condoning it in real life.”, “Writing X fiction normalizes X in real life.”
Notice anything about these statements? The ones that blur the lines between talking about or depicting something and actually committing to doing those things in real life?
The point is to create a guilt response. When fancops try to police what you’re allowed to write about or depict, their goal is to make you conform to their subjective ideas on what fiction actually does. Grooming is the process of forging a relationship with someone for the purpose of using them later, like a pig prepared for slaughter. It reminds me of christian fundies who feel intense feelings of guilt and shame for partaking in sexual acts outside marriage, so they seek forgiveness from their church and resolve to do better in the future.
Sin is an imaginary sickness created to give you an imaginary cure.
Fancops like to act like they’re morally superior for being more “moral”; For not supporting writing noncon or underage fiction, or whatever else makes them uncomfortable, even when no actual harm has occurred. It’s all just recycled anti-kink purity rhetoric, and the goal is recruitment. Young antis are encouraged to go into nsfw spaces that aren’t for them in order to harass people and put them on blast. Their very thoughts are controlled by the group. If they try to leave the group, they’ll get harassed and called out too, and they’ll lose their entire support system just like that.
Indoctrination; The process of grooming minds.
I think it’s important to point out that fancops have the burden of proof in this situation. If you’re going to accuse someone of a crime, you need the evidence to back that up, and trust me, little kids everywhere ship themselves with fictional grown adults all the time. Having crushes on older people is perfectly natural. It’s not like it’s a moral failing on the part of the child for having a crush on someone much older than them. That’s fucking ridiculous. “Proship” is really just a label on the reality of fantasy. It’s acknowledging that there is always a crucial barrier in the healthy mind between reality and fiction.
Please, whatever you do, whoever may be reading this, DO NOT let someone else try to dictate the thoughts you’re allowed to have, regardless of whether they call themself an anti or a proshipper. The motivation behind such thinking is control, specifically control over you and anyone else they can get their hands on. They will use you for clout and then discard you like trash.
