It absolutely astounds me that antis will publicly shame people for writing bad fiction as if that makes you a bad person, and then complain that proshippers shouldn’t label that purity culture because it’s somehow “appropriating” a word that describes religious trauma for cult survivors.
You know. Forgetting the fact that lots of proshippers are also survivors of extremist religious cults and we’re just pointing out we noticed the fucking pattern. I feel like the mormon church just followed me into fandom, like no matter how much I run I can never escape from them, forgive me for having the audacity to complain about it.
I may have even stayed in the church longer than I would have otherwise, because even supposedly secular people outside the church used the same purity logic, so clearly that meant the mormon church is just normal?
I was in the mormon church and fandom spaces at the same fucking time for a few years, and they looked the same to me. I saw the same logic parroted from both sides. Not only are you guys a fucking purity cult, but you talk over ex-cultists as if you understand them better than us when you clearly don’t.
You know what they say about if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, right?
Now antis, do me a favor and shut the fuck up about purity culture, because you clearly know nothing about it.
