Questioning
(kin and alterhuman terminology)
Questioning is the prosses of investigation and discernment one uses to discover if something is a kintype (otherkin or fictionkin).
This process is different in nature and length for every person and every kintype.
Questioning may involve self reflection, meditation, attempts to retrieve memories, consuming source material related to a potential kintype, comparing the kintype to other experiences and beliefs one has, and generally making sense of if and how the kintype is meaningful to the question etc.
This process is used to determine if the potential kintype is actually a kintype or if it is some type of other attachment, for instance an attraction, comfort character, paratype, hearttype, copinglink, fictive, system member, etc.
