OP was very unclear on who killed the cat in original message; I assumed that it was the dad, or that the cat was killed by accident during an altercation.

Obviously, no one, not even a parent is bound or expected to suffer abuse from a violent and destructive person. If the son was violent, abusive, and destroying property, then they were also an abuser in that situation.

That said, it sound like at the end, the father was screaming that they would murder the son, and was destroying their property. That’s abusive and not justified either.

There were ways to handle the situation that did not involve violence.
