Hey anon, thank you so much, your very kind!
Posting smut can feel intimidating because of the weird box out society tends to put it in. But it’s also really fun, and can get a big reaction from people!
Here are some tips for how to start sharing erotica, smut, etc, when you’re feeling shy.
♦️ One thing you can do is create a separate account on whatever site you use to put out your writing, and post your smut on that new, unconnected account instead of your main one.
That way, people who weren’t expecting to see smut from you won’t be surprised to have it in their feed, and you’ll establish another audience that is looking for smut.
Later, when you feel more comfortable being connected with erotic works, you can share a link to your smut account from your clean account, and people who are interested from your clean audience can follow you in your new one.
♦️ If you’re posting to Archive of our Own specifically, AO3 has an option to post works anonymously, which can be great for sharing your first smut.
The drawback of those of course is that you may be less likely to receive comments (assuming you want those), and you can’t go back and connect the writing to yourself later.
♦️ this isn’t specific advice but I think it’s important to remember that people like smut. A small, vocal minority might talk about disliking it or thinking it’s awful, but most actual real people either don’t care or actively think smut is good!
