not sure if this sounds weird to say, but people who say “underage fiction causes grooming and predatory behavior” follow the same logic of people who say “wearing revealing outfits causes rape”.
if you believe that fictional content causes such things to happen, then congratulations, you’re siding with offenders and taking the blame off their backs because “it was fiction that lead them to act”.
fiction does not cause predatory crimes.
predators cause predatory crimes.
similarly, showing off a lot of skin does not cause rape. rapists do.
predators will be held responsible for all that they do. authors and artists are not — and should not — be held responsible for other people’s crimes.
we are telling a story.
they are traumatizing a victim.
