gee, how many times do i have to say to antis that ‘romanticizing and simply depiction are hard to give a line to’? hell, lolita is an example here bc even though in the book, before humbert humbert can give his thoughts it has been established that he’s suffering legal consequences from his actions and yet… i think a movie turned the perception of that book that the author is sexualizing dolores, and the book covers since then reflect that. yes! even if mr. nabokov is a csa survivor himself! we dont even get the background of the author while reading books!
If anyone thinks they can tell for certain that an author’s intention was to romanticize a harmful actions in fiction the author wrote, they are simply wrong.
There is no way you can tell an author’s intention unless they tell you directly “this was my intention”.
Anything else is your personal interpertation.
When someone is reading fiction with abuse in it and saying it was romanticized, it is because they are interpreting it to be romantic.
The perception of the abuse as romantic is in their interpertation of the text.
