On this day remembering the master mind of fantasy Terry Pratchett I would like to put forward the following theory:
The day Vimes die the Gods say due to the amount of belief he created around himself he is to become the God of Policemen. Vimes is completely pissed about this because he sees the gods as a bunch of high and mighty types who never do anything except expect people to worship them and claim everything good is because of them.
It was when he told Blind Io exactly what he thought about this proposal that they knew they were in trouble. Vimes technical is now a God whether he wants it or not but because he doesn’t believe in their rules (and what’s worse, he expects things like Justice and Law to apply to THEM) it could cause all kinds of issues.
In the end they had to bring in Sybil in the hope to convince him to go to a kind of heaven but to their dismay one of the gods said it was like a retirement and that gets him more riled up and Sybil’s idea is to enjoy the afterlife with her but do the God of Policing as his job. One which he can come home at the end of each day and relax in his little piece of heaven.
This upsets the Gods which seems to seal the deal with Sam.

Also…Sybil was so taken with Death when she collected her and Sam and when she found how many time he and Sam have met she practically adopts him into the family and has Death over once a month for tea.
