Do you think you could come up with a list of how young people can actually stay safe on the current internet?
Yes, but you won’t like it.
The modern internet framework of social media was essentially created to strip away your privacy and create an unsafe public presence.
Here’s how to actually stay safe on the internet.
🚫 Don’t share your real name unless you’re conducting a business transaction
🚫 Don’t share your address unless you’re conducting a business transaction.
🚫 Do not share photos with any elements that could be used to doxx you, such as street signs, distinctive local landmarks, etc. Do not connect photographs of yourself to your real name.
🚫 Do not share photographs of yourself under your internet persona if you’re going to also post them to a facebook account with your real name. If you post a photo on both tumblr and facebook, I can do a google image search of the photo from tumblr, find the version on facebook and learn your real name.
🚫 Do not share video of yourself.
🚫 If you must share video of yourself the same rules as photo sharing apply.
🚫 Additionally if you share video of yourself, do not express any opinions you wouldn’t want your grandmother to hear.
🚫 Do not talk about any elements of your life on video that could be used to find or doxx you. No local landmarks. No relative’s names.
🚫 Do not show your ID to anyone for any reason.
🚫 Do not tell people your age.
🚫 Do not advertise your diagnoses, triggers, or any other information that could be used specifically to hurt and upset you.
🚫 Do not assume that other people online are being honest about their age, their diagnoses, or geographic location.
🚫 Don’t click on any links that say you won a free anything. This includes discord nitro.
