harp: have you ever written a poem for a crush?
I (😼🔪) was 16 and in high school. There was this girl in my class who was one of those beautiful, popular girls who’s actually really nice. She had good grades, she was into sports, she was nice to everyone.
She was also a Lion King Girl. She drew lion king art all the time, and had a lioness OC.
I had a huge crush on her.
For some English class we had together we had to write poetry and share it with the class.
I’ve been posting online for long enough that I still have the poem, which I wrote, in class, implicitly for her.
Ready for the cringe?
The Lion Maid (Dec 3, 2003)
The lion’s den hides a graceful lady.
How then to court such a maid?
I shouldn’t know, nor dare to try;
But sit sometimes, when she is sated,
Beside her den.
And fancy that we have made some mutual acquaintance.
I, her caller, polite in my distance,
And faithful always, would say
That her hair I a mane of rays plucked from the sun
And she must keep the blue savannah sky behind her eyes.
The lady, laughing, would bid me onwards,
And I, the gentleman always,
Would tell her of her sweetling smile.
Would she then invite me “surely I must come inside to eat?”
But Ah!
“Nay lady, such an invitation must sadly I decline!”
And sit instead outside the den.
Faithful in my calling,
But polite I my distance too.
And wary always of this cunning maid.
She said, out loud, that she wished that someone would like her like that.
We did not date.
