I am asking my fellow proshippers (and everyone else) not to say ‘pedophiles’ when you mean ‘child molesters’ for one simple reasons.
Most cases of sexual assault, grooming, etc against children are not crimes of attraction, they are crimes of opportunity against members of a vulnerable population (children).
Most child molesters are not actual pedophiles, they are simple rapists who target children opportunistically due to their vulnerability.
There are simply not enough pedophiles out there to commit all the crimes of child sexual assault that happen.
Blaming child molestation exclusively on pedophiles mis-assigns blame and pathologizes rapists, thereby shifting the blame for their crimes from their actions to their assumed pathology.
