I’m not gonna accept being called a “freak” by people who see nothing wrong with fictional violence, yet draw the line to anything that isn’t vanilla and/or consensual sex. It’s cognitive dissonance at best, and diet puritanism at worst.
More importantly, I’ll never respect the opinion of someone who wants to police other people’s thoughts. Thought crimes aren’t a thing, and no one should be shamed for having something as normal as rape fantasies, or anything else really. It’s nobody’s business what one fantasizes, and imagining doesn’t mean condoning.
For example, just because I fantasize about being raped, doesn’t mean I actually want it or that I deserve it. Same thing applies for who’d rather fantasize about assaulting someone instead.
Moreover, the existence of rapists doesn’t mean that power play fantasies are harmful, in the same way that the existence of murderers doesn’t mean that videogames or slasher movies brainwash you into being a serial killer.
If this basic concept is hard to understand, or even unacceptable, then how can you excuse watching any sort of fictional media? All fiction is problematic to a certain degree, as without any sort of conflict there is no plot. If what disturbs you is the sexual component, to the point of wanting to ban and censor it when you could easily filter of out, then I’m afraid you’re not protecting anyone, you’re just another flavor of conservative.
