Thinking about how If you break an “unwritten rule” of something, you didn’t actually break a rule, what you did was violate a social convention.
That means you should expect a social “punishment” in the form of an attempted public shaming or social ostracism from the group whose social convention you broke.
Online, that translates into getting blocked (fine and understandable), or cyberbullied and harassed (unacceptable), depending on how much of an asshole the people who don’t like that you “broke their rules” are.
