It’s one of those moments where you come awake in your bed all at once, without transition. You’re not certain that you even remember falling asleep, but here you are in your bed, in your room, in the dark.
So you must have been sleeping.
This is your room, isn’t it?
Something feels different. Strange. The familiar sounds of the nightscape outside your window– the distant cars, the hum of streetlamps– are gone. In fact, you don’t hear anything.
No– that’s not true. Suddenly you hear whispering from behind your closed door.
“You sure we’re doing this tonight? What if the dreamer is awake?”
