Question! I’ve stopped being an anti since mid 2021 but I’m still a bit stuck on this and I’d really appreciate some help. Is it okay to selfship with a character who’s queer? That’s all that we know about his sexuality, so I’m not really sure if that’s okay or not because people in the fandom say he’s exclusively MLM but I’m a girl :(
It doesn’t matter what fandom says.
It doesn’t matter what canon says.
Fanfiction, and by extension, self shipping– is for you. It’s your imagination.
The character is your doll and you can do whatever you want with them.
The idea that its somehow wrong to write straight fanfic of queer characters it ridiculous.
People used to use the same arguments about canon to say it was wrong to write gay fanfiction about straight characters.
Your fanfiction– your self ship– is not somehow taking away from the character in canon being gay, if they even are.
And if the character in question is bi rather than gay, having a problem with people shipping them with women is in fact biphobic.
