If my rambling is too weird feel free to just delete this www I’m sorry, I’ve spiraled real hard on the Hook sauce tonight. I can’t stop posting about it hehe and I love world building, so the idea of trying to fit INklings into the pre-established lore has been really fun. The idea of like these squid people who feud with mermaids and sirens, and one of them falls *for a pirate.* Like, boy! You can’t do that! He’d sooner cook you than let you on his ship, but this lil Inkling is like :/ I’ll make it work. And the idea in my head so far is that since flintlocks and shit are a thing, the only other one that supports it is like “here, if you want on his ship THIS BADLY, you’ll want this.” And it’s a pistol built to fire ink, though it’s a really messy thing. And loud. So fae’s been too nervous to use it, just following the boat in the water and day dreaming about climbing up… I’ve also been messing with the biolog, since this obviously has strayed far off from Splatoon’s canon anyway. I mean, in canon, Inklings splat when submerged. So I’ve liked the idea that what’s under the water stays squid-y, and what’s above automatically becomes people-y. With only some exception. Like they can go freely between, but it’s an unconscious reaction to being submerged/removed from water, like breathing or blinking. To stop it, you have to consciously think about it. Just this weird, pink squid in the water… Never does much, just watches… Chases the ship, sticks around, watching… And maybe at night, if he’s out on the deck, he catches a humanoid shape sticking out of the water with the shadow of those tentacles under it, just watching. Just… Watching. Sorry again if this is all too weird, i wanted to ramble about personal canon and shit because I’m absolutely vibrating over here alone in the living room over it while I watch musicals!! I don’t think an inkling character in this position is any stranger than a mermaid or other fae creature. I think I klings could easily fit inside the established lore’ of Neverland which is already notoriously loose, and you e got a great start here.
I imagine old Hook would prefer to be followed by a suspicious squid, rather than certain other.. famous marine life he’s been trailed by 😉
