I’m binging content before trying to write Hook, plz give your best Peter Pan media recs so I can go insane /lh
For you, my friend, a list of my personal favorites:
Peter Pan (2003)- with Jason Isaacs as Hook, this is the best nonmusical adaptation of the story in my opinion. It really understands and gives dimension to all the primary characters.
Peter Pan starring Mary Martin (1954)– the definitive adaptation of the stage musical, with Cyril Richard as Hook. (This one is available in full on YouTube)
Fox’s Peter Pan and the Pirates (1990)- with famous Tim Curry as Hook. The best animated adaptation. A series created by Fox in order to spit in the face of Disney. Very silly at times but good fun.
Hook (1991)- the Steven Spielberg sequel to the original Peter Pan story, with Dustin Hoffman as Hook. Really captures the essence of James Hook as a character.
Pan (2015)- this movie is a so-called prequel that captures none of the essence of Peter Pan. Hook is a cowboy. It’s terrible. I beg you to watch it. It’s hilarious.
Hook: The Adventures of a Notorious Youth- a novel by JV Hart, the author of the Hook 1991 script. A backstory for Hook as a child based on Barrie’s ‘Hook at Eton’ speech. There is an audiobook available.
Hook at Eton- a transcript of a speech made by JM Barrie to a class at Eton boy’s school which details some of Captain Hook’s backstory.
Peter and Wendy- JM Barrie’s 1911 novel based upon his earlier stage play. The definitive telling of the tale.
