the ironic truth about how the fandom mischaracterizes Gonta:
There is a character that is basically Fanon!Gonta in regards to a murder case. A character that was convinced to murder on EXPLICITLY false pretenses, and likely would have been verbally abused had he not agreed. Someone who was used and discarded without remorse when he was no longer needed in the master plan.
His name was Hifumi Yamada, and y’all fucking hate him and give him way more agency than he realistically had.
I’m serious:
If Gonta says no, Kokichi can’t kill Miu by himself. Even if Kokichi turned on him, they were the only two away from the group and within earshot. Easiest case ever.
Hifumi says no? Celeste fucking kills him. No witnesses. She just changes the plan a little. Frames Taka for his murder, maybe using Hiro as an accomplice if she was insistent on using one. Hifumi also snitched on her while he was on his deathbed, which makes him less willing to go through than Gonta.
