I’m genuinely not sure where the idea that if you read something in fiction or have fantasies about something, that you are invariably wanting to experience it in real life. That all fiction is used for is wish fulfillment. I’ve seen it weaponized in fascist spaces though, mainly against men who read “weird hentai” (stuff with femboys ig?) and others genuinely trying to convince them that they are gay solely because of that.
Fundamentalist preachers, and other conservatives and puritans.
It comes from conservatives who claim that fictional material is inherently unwholesome and will either corrupt you, or you’re only interested in it because you are already corrupted.
It also comes from conservative attacks on literary and art education in america. Uneducated gen z americans who have never had a chance to learn the actual reasons behind literature and art believe that art and fiction is only for wish fulfillment.
