Okay so you know how normally a computer only has one operating system– for instance, windows, mac, or linux installed on it?

A brain is like a computer. Most of the time that brain only has one person ‘installed’ on it, just like most computers only have one operating system installed.

There are some brains, like our brain, that have multiple people installed on them, instead of one.

Imagine a computer that has multiple operating systems installed on it, and it’s possible to switch between them. Every operating system works differently, even though they’re all using the same computer hardware.

Having multiple people sharing one brain is called ‘plurality’.

Some people have only heard of plurality through what is called “Dissociative Identity Disorder” (which used to be called Multiple Personality Disorder), but that is not the only reason that someone might be plural.

We do not have DID, but we have experienced plurality and lived life as a plural system since we were a child.
