I just know Dream Daddy was one of those “joke” VNs, this one specifically about himbos and single dads (hence the name) That might be wrong (generally speaking I went through a period in my life where “dad bods” were incredibly triggering and I avoided the game for it – but I’m okay now ^.^) but idk.
Ahh so not much then.
Alright so first off; dream daddy was actually not a joke dating sim, it was a genuinely sincere queer dating sim game, though it was playful and had jokes in it.
It was also quite dark in some of its routes, including the Joseph route.
Joseph is a closeted gay man who is a Christian minister with a wife and children. He is pretty emotionally damaged and pretty toxic.
He leads you to believe that he’s going to leave his wife and run away with you but that does not a actually happen.
Despite it being a dating sim, Joseph’s route ends in tragedy and you don’t get to be with him no matter what.
As for the drama, there were a couple of things.
Relevant tp Joseph, there was a cut (and eventually restored) ending where it turned out that Joseph was the leader of an evil satanic cult.
Fancop and moralist types were enraged by this ending’s content, even though it wasn’t actually in the game, and there were huge call-out posts on Twitter and Tumblr about it.
Likewise the usual types criticized and nitpicked every facet of the queer game for things they would never criticize in straight media. It was called “bad rep” for a thousand stupid reasons and people tried to get others to boycott the game.
In the end it got so much hate, despite being a fun game with actual queer characters, that the dev team basically disappeared.
