I’m a pro shipper, but I realized something that makes me feel really stupid. I let fiction affect the way I act in real life in not-so-great ways. i played a lot of dating sims, and I let it brainwash me into thinking that I could make someone fall in love with me if I just built the right skills and said the right things. But now I realized that’s not true, and I have no control over who does and doesn’t fall in love with me. Am I proving the antis right? Or am I just dumb?
You’re not dumb, and you’re not proving antis right either.
People allow themselves to be influenced by the fiction they consume all the time. The only people who claim that proshippers think “fiction doesn’t affect reality” are antis.
But the fiction you consume, and the creators of that fiction aren’t responsible for your behavior and actions.
YOU are the only one responsible for your behavior and actions.
If you see a murder in a movie and decide it’s cool to murder people, if you murder someone, you are still responsible for the murder. The people who made the movies aren’t responsible for your action.
If you play a lot of dating sims and become possessive toward your romantic targets because of them, your actions toward that person are your responsibility, not the responsibility of the dating sims.
Fiction can put thoughts in your head. But YOU are responsible if you act on those thoughts.
Thoughts are never harmful. It’s action that’s harmful, and you are responsible for your own actions.
