Alright Tumblr. Quick question: what is a pro-shipper? I see some people saying pro-ship DNI, and I’m a bit confused??
I’m not active enough on the internet and when I do my own research I actually get some contrasting information?
So is pro-shipping being for shipping in general or is it just related to problematic ships? Are there only specific problematic dynamics it entails? Because I know there are ships where the dynamic is abusive or angsty, but then you have incest ships (especially T-cest. That shit has accidentally popped up in almost all of my turtle related searches when trying to find cute brotherly love between the boys) or the very large and problematic age gap ships as well.
I’m just curious. And I also don’t personally see a problem with it if I’m being honest…? Like… I’m not trying to chose a side here. I’m just curious because I’ve seen this pop up in some blogs I follow and I don’t exactly know what it means.
If someone can give me some clarification or just an in-depth explanation that would be great. Especially when it comes to what the problem might be as well, because as I said I’m new to this whole thing and am very confused.

The terms “proship” and “proshipper” were coined to mean someone who is against people who call themselves “antishippers” or “antis”. It was coined because the previous term “Anti anti” was redundant and confusing.
The term “Proshipper” means “pro” (in favor of) shipping. It means you “ship and let ship” curate your own experience online, and don’t bully or harass other people for their ships.
That is how the term is used by people who self-apply the term proship to themselves.
However, when people who consider themselves antis or antishippers use the term “proship” they use it incorrectly.
Antis use the term “proship” to mean “problematic ships” and apply that label to anyone who ships something that they disagree with, generally shipcest or ships between underage characters and adults, but also ships with age gaps, ships with abusive or toxic dynamics, ships with villains, or anything a particular anti doesn’t like.
