So this is interesting. I have been fighting off wave after wave of bots the last two days.
I have noticed that all of these bots are following the same or similar list of blogs when I check them.
They include @ao3-crack and @dear-ao3 every time, as well as some other consistent blogs that I’m not comfortable pinging out of the blue.
I guess there must be some kind of list these bots are using to follow.
I wonder what the criteria is.

Unfortunately as I look at this list of blogs the idea becomes possible.
The overwhelming majority are fan creators in their upper 20s and 30s, smut and whump writers. There are also some 80s nostalgia blogs.
EDIT: the other, more likely possibility is simply that all these blogs have posted something in a specific shared tag that the bot scrapes from. Perhaps #ao3 or something.
