I think it’s funny how I’ve never seen people do slur discourse over “punk” because “punk” used to mean not just “street trash youth” but more specifically homeless young male sex workers and it’s use as an insult for most of the 20th century was homophobic and basically was on the same level as “faggot” (and also retained that meaning even after “punk rock” in lots of places) but also words change in meaning so~
Punk music is called punk music because it was born out of the rage of actual punks.
The poor, the marginalized, the queer.
Punk music comes from being told that you’re of no fucking value to society and responding with “fuck you”.
To love each other when we’re told we’re not worth love is defiance. To find joy in our rage is rebellion. To decorate ourselves with what society calls ugly or unprofessional is to wear the colours of the poisionous frogs. It’s a warning. It’s taking the stings and barbs of judgement and wearing them as a badge of honour.
It’s looking at a world that tries to torture you into conformity with a toothy grin and saying “no”.
