As an aroace I feel bad when I see posts like “not everything has to romantic! There’s an underappreciation of platonic relationships in fandoms! I want to read about friendships. Stop with amatonormativity!” and roll my eyes. Cuz on one hand yes they’re correct, amatonormativity is everywhere in fandoms. But on other? Make your own platonic fics or arts or headcanons whatever, but don’t demand same from others. Don’t rain on everyone’s parade, most of us treat fandom as a hobby not activism. Will percentage of MHA gen fics going from 10% to 50% stop my coworkers from asking me when I’ll get the partner? Will it stop people judging me for not wanting to get married and own fam thinking it’s all cuz of some trauma? Fuck no.
Don’t rain on everyone’s parade, most of us treat fandom as a hobby not activism.
It would be great if more people would follow that advice!
