I agree that you can’t control everyone, that is an important lesson. Additionally, it is important to respect one’s wishes about their creation, and also with the hope to improve a community. This isn’t a black and white discussion to have, it’s more difficult than that. At the end of the day, I believe there’s a way yo achieve a middle ground: Do whatever you want with the media you are consuming, but since it has been told to not do it publicly, it could be possible to create a closed community. Maybe even a separate a tag could help. I just want a way to balance it all out, so everything can be solved. It can’t be that difficult. There’s a way to satisfy fans of this specific stuff WHILE respecting the creator’s boundaries. What do you think?
I absolutely agree that there should be an additional tag that nswf content creators in the fandom use to tag their work, additional to the main tag.
This allows anyone who wants to filter out the nsfw to do so by blocking just the nsfw tag, and allows people who want to filter out all the content from the fandom to do so by filtering the main tag.
Back in the day I would have agreed that there should be a separate space for it as well– a dedicated horny forum.
But nobody uses those any more. People just use public social media.
And it cause messes like this.
Reasonable asks of a fandom:
- Properly tag your NSFW work
- Don’t deliberately show your fan work to the series creator
- Don’t sell fan made merchandise
Unreasonable asks of a fandom:
- don’t create fanwork
- don’t create fanwork of a specific type
- don’t share fanwork with an audience
